Spenders and policies
Every spender, a person or an agent, has one policy on the account. The contract enforces it.
A spender is any wallet the owner has given a policy on an account: your teammate's embedded wallet, an AI agent's server wallet, or your own wallet. Nobody can pay from an account without a policy on it, the owner included.
#What a policy holds
| Part | What it means | In the app |
|---|---|---|
| Allowance | The most this spender can pay in one period | Required, above $0 |
| Period | How often the allowance refills | Daily (1 day), weekly (7 days) or monthly (30 days) |
| Cap per payment | The most for one payment | Optional. Leave it blank for no cap. It cannot be more than the allowance |
| Payments per period | How many payments in one period | 1 to 1,000 |
| Access ends | When the policy stops working | 30, 90, 180 or 365 days after it is granted |
| Approved services | Which registered services this spender may pay | At least one |
| Status | Active, Paused or Revoked | Set with Pause, Resume and Revoke |
Each spender's approved services are their own. A service another spender may pay is still refused for you unless it is on your list.
#Zero means no limit
In the contract, a cap of 0, a payment count of 0 or an expiry of 0 means no limit for that part, the same way for all three. To stop a spender, the owner pauses them. A zero is never used to mean "nothing allowed".
The allowance is different: it is the budget itself. An allowance of 0 lets nothing through. The app requires an allowance above $0.
#How periods roll
A period starts when the policy is granted and rolls forward on that schedule, not on the calendar. "Monthly" means every 30 days from the grant. When a period ends, the amount spent and the number of payments go back to zero. Paying late in a period never moves the next period's start.
#When access ends
The policy stops working at the expiry time, not after it. A spender whose access has ended cannot pay. Ask the owner to grant a new policy.
#Who can add spenders
Only the account's owner. On Spenders, choose Add a spender, then who will spend:
- You. Your own wallet is filled in. Set your limits and press once. Nuntio also does this for you automatically the first time you open an account you own.
- A teammate. By their connection code, or on a team by an invite link. See Create or join a team.
- An AI agent. Not on team accounts yet. During the beta, agents run only on Nuntio's own account, set up by Nuntio's team. See AI agents.
Adding a spender sends a grant for their policy, then one approveMerchant for each service. None of these move money. If adding stops part way, submit the same form again: Nuntio reads the chain first and sends only what is missing. It never re-sends a grant over a policy that is already in place, because a new grant resets what was spent this period.
#Pause, resume and revoke
On a spender's page the owner can:
- Pause spending. The spender cannot pay or file a request until resumed. Their approved services and any approvals stay as they were. It is reversible, so it does not ask twice.
- Resume spending. Back to Active.
- Revoke. Asks you to confirm. Revoked is final for that policy: it clears the spender's approved services and retires every request they filed under it. To let them spend again, add them again. The new policy starts with no services approved and no live requests.
The status changes only once the chain confirms it. The page never shows a spender as paused while they could still pay.
#Changing someone's limits
The app does not edit an active policy yet. If you submit different limits for someone who already has a policy, it refuses and nothing is sent. To change limits today, revoke the spender and add them again with the new limits. Their new period starts from zero.
#The owner's own policy
The first time an owner opens an account they own, Nuntio adds them as a spender with $1,000 every 30 days, up to $250 a payment, up to 100 payments a period, for 365 days, at every service Nuntio offers on that network. It does this once per owner and account. It never touches the testnet Sandbox, whose owner is Nuntio's operator wallet.
